Air allways and continually leaks forcably from the top. Bostitch

Hi I have an aquired Bostitch brad nailer, when air is applied, it continually blows out of the top air deflecter. It did have a brad stuck in the front nose piece, but I removed the two screws and released the brad. The plunger has one O-ring on it but looks like a smaller diameter o-ring could fit in the lower groove which is considerably shallower than the other one but had no rubber on it when I dissassembled it from the nailer. Any info on this nailer problem would be greately appreciated.......... Thanks Brian...

This nailgun has several parts to the headvalve that must fit together properly to seal. Go to for a diagram of this tool. The part called the diaphragm is source of problem. It has thin vinyl walls that will fold over when you assemble. The piston will not cause the gun to leak, just make sure that piston fits snug into the cylinder. Loose oring on piston will only cause low power or the poston may not retract all the way back up. Some piston/drivers had a plastic ring instead of an oring. The plastic ring had a secondary oring under, however not necessary. You can use rubber or plastic, just make sure that the piston is not too tight or too loose. The piston oring is the only oring in the gun that can be cut to fit. It is like a piston in a car engine. The piston rings have a gap.
